Maybe the Moon Was Never Soft. What Is Actually Holding the Dark?

Welcome to the dark moon. We are standing in the concentration, the crone energy of this whole cycle finally condensing down to what's actually true, the way balsamic vinegar gets reduced down, and then what's left is potent, strong, and rich. This is the hush, the silence, the stillness before the sliver of light comes back. Every lunar cycle carries this phase, where the Sun and Moon start their dance back into union, and this time that union goes exact on August 12th at 11:47am Mountain time, when the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun with precision. The sky itself goes dark at midday over Iceland and the coast of northern Spain: a total solar eclipse.
The energy we are in is incredibly potent. It's the moment the container gets to hold nothing on purpose, and everything at once. The veil right now is thin enough to put your hand through, and somewhere behind the part of the sky you can actually feel the dark goddess standing exactly where she's always stood. Never asking to be feared but so magnetically present, respect is the only response available. The way you'd walk back into an old room in the house you grew up in and forgot was still there, carefully, with your whole attention, not with your hand already reaching for the light switch. It is a moment of holy raw clarity. It's the moment gravity starts to lose its grip on reality so it can be re-formed, re-created….rebirthed into alignment with where things actually are in real time, potential change in motion. As I am sure you are aware, this one is carrying more than the usual weight not only due to the eclipse. Pluto hasn't stood in Aquarius since the 1790s, the same two decades that tore up the old structures of power and started building new ones, and the North Node only just walked into that same sign two weeks ago, right as this cycle opened, meaning the whole collective's direction and the deepest transformation of our era are finally pointed the same way for the first time in over two hundred years. They haven't met exactly yet, that conjunction doesn't peak until next November, but the two of them just started closing that distance in the same sign, and this eclipse is sitting right in the middle of the opening.

Isis is still riding the Sun through Leo, fire, gathering what's scattered instead of forcing it whole before it's ready, and Medusa, earth, planted in Taurus, is squared up hard against Jupiter's fire this week, the belief systems that have been holding a whole world together meeting the exact gaze that turns whatever violated you to stone. Her power was never truly seen. It was put on her the moment something was taken from her that she never agreed to give, and then she was the one who got punished for carrying it, turned into the monster instead of the one it happened to. Even after they hunted her down and took her head for it, that power didn't disappear, it got worn as shield for the masculine, instead, still doing its job, just for hands that had never earned it. I keep asking myself if it was ever really her face anyone feared, or if it was something else, the sacred female power getting stripped out of her and handed to the masculine to wear instead of the masculine ever being asked to just hold it the way it was supposed to, contain it instead of take it. This is something I've been watching for several weeks now in my own life and in the women who move through my circles.
Name the container. The veil is thin. If Medusa's own power could be taken off her and worn by someone else's hands, sacred female power used instead of honored, what does that actually say about what we've been calling feminine this whole time. What if we've had this backwards. What if the moon was never feminine to begin with, because this was always a dark goddess story.
I want to take care with a specific word here, because I'm not calling this the sacred feminine. Feminine carries its own programming before anyone opens their mouth: soft, submissive, agreeable, the quieter half of a pair that's supposed to wait its turn to speak, possibly stemming from all the myths that lead us to this…..Why?
I didn't come up with sacred female power on my own, Laura Amazzone offered this phrase first, in her book Goddess Durga and Sacred Female Power, and it's the one I've carried ever since, not because feminine is the wrong word for everyone, just not the one that's mine to carry this with anymore.

For years I ran moon medicine circles open to men and women both, against what I kept being told I should do. The moon is the timekeeper, tied to masculine gods long before anyone decided it was feminine, built to hold this kind of dark without flinching. What moves inside that structure was always sacred female power, ancient, undomesticated, chaotic, just like creation itself, in all of her phases, in all of her liminal divinity, not asking permission to exist. What I keep watching right now, in real relationships, is men who seem to be unable to hold that. Who don't have the tools to hold a woman changing underneath them, can't hold the decay of the parts of her that are dying off so something healthier can take root. It's Medusa's story again, power that was supposed to be held instead getting taken. Decay isn't failure, it's the middle step. What falls away from a woman has to go somewhere, and what it's actually doing on its way out is composting, becoming the exact material the next cycle needs to grow from. The container is masculine. What it holds always was hers.
None of this is coincidence and it isn't random synchronicity either. Pluto hasn't stood in Aquarius since the 1790s. The Node hasn't stood on this exact Leo and Aquarius axis since right around 2008, the same year Pluto itself crossed into Capricorn and the whole structure of the world's money cracked open. Almost two decades later the Node has come back around to Leo and Aquarius, and this time it isn't just near Pluto, it's walking straight into the sign Pluto's already standing in, the two of them closing a gap that hasn't closed in over two hundred years, building toward the exact meeting point next November. The Sun and Moon meeting in Leo on the 12th, fire, royalty, the old masculine that ruled by being seen and believed without question, sits right inside that same trajectory. Aquarius carries the water bearer, the one who carries what the world actually needs to drink, and air can't carry water on its own, it has to pass through fire first, be heated and given shape before it turns into wisdom instead of just weather. That's the dance underneath all of this. Not masculine power stepping aside for feminine power, not feminine power waiting to be handed the throne. Sacred male power and sacred female power learning to move as one instrument instead of two that keep competing for the same room.
If there's something in you that's ready to stop being fed before the next seed goes in on the 12th, this is the window, not to fix it, not to perform the release, just to name it plainly to yourself in whatever dark you've actually got this week. The veil's thin enough right now that naming it out loud might be the same thing as it actually leaving.
The memory was buried. Not destroyed.
With you,
Kat
